Conservatory 2019 b

The Main Conservatory at Longwood is a very large rectangular space divided into two halves.
Aisles go all around, and each aisle has different colors and different flowers.  My favorite
this time was definitely this one, emphasizing the huge "Corcovado Oriental  Trumpet Lily."

Up above hang large baskets of "Cape Primrose."  They are lowered to the ground each morning
to be watered.  Along the pavement beneath the lilies are "Gerbera Daisies."
You can also see the "Dark Blue Canterbury Bells" lining the Center Aisle.

This is the Eastern half of the conservatory.  On the bottom left are pink and white
"Satin Flowers / Evening Primrose."

The "Corcovado Oriental Trumpet Lilies" were very large and in a pale peach color.
These are 8-10 inches in diameter.

The lilies have very long stems and a single blossom on each stem.

This is looking to the West.  The Dark Blue Canterbury Bells show clearly.

Orange and Yellow Gerbera Daisies

The NW Aisle is in orange and purple, Rieger Begonias and Purple Bartlettina.

There is a mirror in back which enlarges and deepens the space.

The East Aisle featured this pale yellow and white Oriental Trumpet Lily
named "Concha d'Oro" and a variety of Peruvian Lilies.

"Lima Sunrise" Peruvian Lily / Alstroemeria.
This flower is common in South America but has only recently come into the U.S.

"Mulan" Violet Peruvian Lily / Alstroemeria.
The flower is also known as the "Inca Lily."

The Eastern Aisle was filled with "Crimson Sunset Snapdragons" and "Yellow Broom."

The NE Aisle was devoted to the white "East Lily," offset with green ivy, or
Red Ti Plants, or small red Marguerite Flowers, as here.

White Easter Lilies and Red Marguerites

The Easter Lily Aisle; they were in full bloom.  Further down you can see
the Begonia and Bartlettina Aisle.

The Acacia Passage links the conservatory to the Orchid House.  The Passage is lined
with pots of "Hot Red Ti Plants,"  "Pink Large Leaf Hydrangeas," and Ivy.

The Pink Hydrangeas are also used in the "Children's Greenhouse,"
but look what the bright sun does to their color in photographs.

"Flowering Azalea Bonsai Tree."
There is also a very nice collection of bonsai trees.

A last look down the South Aisle of the Conservatory.
