Palm Beach Jewelry, Art, and Antiques Show 2019 - Part 5

George Stubbs.  "Gentleman with Horse."  1795.  English.
Equestrian paintings from England are very popular.

George Jensen.  "Silver Service."
This was part of a 40 crate set which had been made for a Middle Eastern ruler.
Each box would have 20 silver plates, or silver bowls, tea pots, coffee pots.
Each box was worth $8,000 - $40,000.  It was very nice.

George Jensen.  "Silver Set."

Christopher Marley.  "Cerulean Genesis."  U.S.  Butterflies.
Chris was there, as usual; I met him last year.  Chris is an explorer, but the
butterflies he used in his art are purchased from butterfly breeders, not caught in the wild.

John Chamberlain.  "Asarabaca."  Industrial Aluminum Foil.  1973
This is a very early piece.  Chamberlain is more noted for his crumpled and
painted automobile fenders.

Paint is applied and directed with ivory spatulas.

Gabor Torok.  "Torso."  Hungarian.  Bronze.

Aldine.  "Santa Maria del Salute in Venice."

Henry Johnston. "Sailing at Sunset."  English.
Seascapes are very popular.

Mimi Roberts.  "Crab and Lemon Slices."  Still Life.

Claude Venard.  "Still Life with Lamp and Teapot."  France.
He was very popular at the show and represented in many galleries; many
homes in Palm Beach must have his paintings.

"Two Rabbits."  English Iron Stoneware.

A Tray with peonies and a parrot.  English Iron Stoneware.

Jean-Michel Picart.  "Peonies, Tulips, and Hydrangeas."  Dutch.  17th century.
One of the finest booths is always Lawrence Steigrad with his collection of
17th - 19th century paintings.  The dark frames are hand-made in England.
An original 17th century frame would cost as much as the picture or more.

Gillis Peeters.  "A River Landscape."  17th century.  Dutch.

Jean-Michel Picart.  "Bouquet of Tulips."  17th century.

Jenny Wheatly.  "Havana Taxi."   Cornwall, England.

You too can feel like an English aristocrat if you purchase one of these Venetian scenes.

Lucien Adrion.  "Pont des Arts, Paris."  French.
Or you could ge this Impressionist-style landscape of Paris.

Giacomo Balla.  "Orlow."  Italian.
Balla was one of the founders of the Italian Abstract Style known as "Futurism."

Two Chinese Export Porcelain Balusters in Famille Rose.
Europeans were fascinated by China in the 18th century, but knew nothing about it.
So they avidly bought ceramics with pictures of Chinese life, as here.

Table with micro-mosaic in-lay and pietra dura decoration,
using thin slices of different colored stones.  Rome,
usually in the Vatican workshops.

Table top with micro-mosaics and pietra dura.  "View of Roman Forum."

The Boccara Gallery specialized in tapestries, both historical and modern.
This is a large tapestry woven on designs of the Hungarian/French artist,
Victor Vasarely.

Detail of Lurcat tapestry.
Lurcat created the design; it was woven by Belgian tapestry makers.

Chinese Export Porcelain.  "Blue-and-White Baluster."  Under-glaze Blue.

Famille Rose Baluster with Peonies.
The soft pink color is important.  Over-glaze decoration = the colored
glazes are painted on top of the transparent glaze and then fired again.
