Roses in Montreal

The best month for roses is June, and the Botanic Gardens in Montreal have
thousands of rose bushes of every size, shape, and color in bloom right now.
These are some pictures I have taken on my visits there.

There are hundreds of varieties of roses and colors of every hue.
There are miniature roses, huge hybrid tea roses, shrub roses, vine roses,
floribunda roses and many more.  And they are all at their peak.

Two toned roses seemed to be the specialty of the year.  The flowers
must like the Montreal climate, because they were especially prolific.

There are large beds of each color and each variety, so you get to see lots of them.
For me, they look best as individuals, close-up, but it was also nice to see large
numbers of them together.  They are all perfectly pruned and dead flowers removed.

Pink and white floribunda roses.

Red and orange rose.

Pink everblooming roses.

The Montreal Botanic Gardens actually consist of 18 different gardens.
The Rose Garden is just one.  This is the Chinese Garden, which has a large lake
and several buildings in addition to all the plants and flowers and bonsai trees.

White roses.

Pink and magenta rose.

Pink and white ruffled rose.

Pale coral roses.

Red and white roses.

I also enjoy walking through the Jean Talon Market, where merchants
take pride in their very colorful displays of fruits and vegetables.

Canadian farmers produce cauliflower in a number of colors.
They assured me these were not dyed, but raised as separate varieties.

And lots of baskets of many berries.

The world is filled with so many beautiful things;
we need to stop and smell the roses but also taste the berries.
